The new contest is as much of a challenge as it is a contest. The theme is "Childhood Fears." Was it the sound of a train in the night, before you knew what trains were? A shadow on the wall at a certain time of day? Something from a movie that you were too young to see? Maybe even a children's story that spooked you... the Grimm brothers were pretty grim.

The idea is to represent that fear in your chosen field of art/literature. The more edgy, off-balance and surreal it is, the better the chance of winning. The contest will run through January first, so you'll have plenty of time. Don't procrastinate, though... get to work!

So far the prizes are 150 points for first pace, 100 for second, and 50 for third in each category. There will be two categories, one for visual art and one for literature. Any other prize donations are very welcome... we'd like to make this worth your while.

All entries will be judged by the staff no later than January seventh.

Any questions, comments, suggestions?

I was absolutely terrified of the cardboard cut out of Freddy Krueger at Movie Gallery. LOLOL. I couldn't even pass him. I would go WAAAYYY around. Keep in mind that this cardboard cutout was taller than me. I was that little. LOL. It was real terror too. That kind where when your Mom drags you past, you scream, cry and have a true meltdown. I was that scared. Humilatingly funny to me now, but very real then. What were you afraid of?
